I decided that post was long enough so I'd split it into two parts.
This morning, DH called the home warranty company about the A/C. They gave him the name of a repair company that they are contracted with. He called them, but they had no appointments available to come check it out today, regardless of if it was an emergency situation or not. He called the warranty company back, and they gave him the name of another place that could do the repairs. While on the phone with the home warranty company, he was sure to mention that we needed this fixed ASAP because we live in FL, it's August, and his wife is pregnant. He assumed the customer service rep would have put notes about their conversation into the computer. She didn't.
He called the repair company, and they didn't know when they could come out because it wasn't an emergency. (NOT AN EMERGENCY? Seriously? What constitutes a freaking A/C emergency to these people? Flames shooting out of the A/C unit?) He explained the situation again (FL, August, PREGNANT!), but they couldn't do anything about it because the home warranty people hadn't flagged it as an emergency situation.
DH called the home warranty company back and asked why our situation wasn't flagged as an emergency. The guy who answered said...it wasn't flagged because they didn't consider it an emergency. DH was like, "People DIE in Florida in the summer from heat-related conditions!" The rep apparently even checked the weather, and because there were no heat advisories in effect for today, it wasn't considered an "emergency" (notice my use of quotations). Here is where DH assumed that the notes from the previous conversation were in the computer. He brought up the conversation he had with the first rep and asked if they would consider it an emergency if his wife was pregnant. Apparently, that changed everything! The guy said that then it actually was an emergency situation. Thank God for being pregnant!
They flagged our account, and DH called the repair company back. They said they would have someone out to our house this morning around 10:30 am to check it out. DH left work and met them there. He confirmed it...the blower went out. He told the technician the story about the part he ordered.
The guy's response?
"That's just bad luck right there." Thanks, buddy. We know.
Now the repair company has to run the findings through the warranty company and get it approved and then they can order the parts that are needed. That will take all of today, so they can't get back out to our house to fix it until tomorrow. DH told them that he was going out of town this weekend and his pregnant wife was staying home, so that if this didn't get fixed on Friday, he was going to be facing an emergency! Like...not having a place to live when he got back home.
;)
I am dreading the way our house is going to feel after an entire day without A/C. Luckily, today isn't sunny at all and it's been pretty overcast and rainy.
Praying that everything is all fixed by tomorrow...and that our luck turns around!
New battery in my car and an A/C repair in the same week. PLEASE don't let there be a third thing!
