Check it out! Brayden is walking!
He took his first 2 steps on 12/02/10. He did it about 5 times in the following week, but would only take 2 steps at a time. And he would never do it when we tried to get him to...only when he was already standing and did it on his own. Every time we tried to put him in a standing position, his legs would go jello and he'd sit down. Stubborn little guy! Then on 12/12/10, I was at a friend's house and he let go of a table and walked 6 steps to me, completely out of the blue. I wasn't even trying to get him to walk! I kept working with him and he finally would allow me to put him in a standing position without collapsing on the floor. He kept taking about 5-6 steps to me. When I got home, he walked 10 steps to Daddy! We kept working on it, and maybe 15 minutes later he walked across the entire dining room (same room shown in this video) without falling...maybe 20-30 steps in a row! I couldn't believe it!
He's always waited to completely master a new skill before demonstrating it. And he always does it past the "average" mark but still within the "normal" range.
He sat up at 6 months and 3 weeks old...but the very day he sat up, he didn't fall down the entire day. He also reached up to me to pick him up, and sat and reached for toys in front of him and was able to twist from side to side to grab toys without falling all in the same day.
He crawled at 8 months and 1 week old. He never scooted or did an army crawl. He went from rocking back and forth on all fours but not going anywhere to crawling on his hands and knees.
I had a feeling he would do the same thing with walking. I just knew he would take off as soon as he started taking a few steps, and that's exactly what he did on Sunday!

ReplyDeleteYou probably won't remember me but i emailed / messaged you a while ago when i first read your blog - as i loved reading it - as it happened that you got pregnant at the same time as me (we were both on FF at the same time and that's how i saw the link to your blog). Anyway, 2 years on and we both have toddlers at home :) It's been great reading your blog now and then, as it's almost like reading about my own son, they do similar things at similar times obviously. Anyway, don't feel bad about not updating your blog as often as you'd like - and well done on your beautiful Christmas card, what a gorgeous family you have there!
